Declan gets his own blog...

Baby Smiles

After a couple of weeks of trying, I finally caught one of Declan's smiles on camera! I couldn't wait to share it with you. Every time he does it my heart melts into a little puddle.

A little update

I thought I would write a little update on how we are doing. Declan is getting stronger (and fatter!) by the day. I can hardly believe he will be 8 weeks old on Saturday. I suddenly realised that I have not taken nearly enough photos, so the camera is going to be out all the time now. He has grown so much already!

Our days are speeding by in a blur of feedings, changings and naps. Although I must say I am finding motherhood a lot easier than I expected to. I think the reasons are that Declan is a very easy baby, so relaxed and chilled out. He hardly ever cries and is normally very easy to get to sleep. I am also very lucky that Mike (my husband) loves to look after Declan too, we have been known to argue over which of us will get to bath him (Declan LOVES his bath). Mike takes over from me when he gets home from work, giving me a chance to have some "me" time and also to sleep a little before Mike has to go to bed. The system works really well, because Mike still gets a good 8 hours sleep before he has to go to work, meaning he is still able to function in the office. He loves his special time with his boy, I can tell it is the highlight of his day.

The weather has been lovely here recently, so I have been enjoying taking Declan out for walks in the park with Shadow (our dog). Shadow appreciates it too, as she doesn't get as much attention as she used to now that baby is here. I know Declan will make up for it when he is old enough to play chase with Shadow, she will think he is the best thing ever then!

I still don't have many hours to myself, just finding time for this post was tricky! But the days are getting easier now that Declan sleeps well at night, so if things keep going this way I should be able to open my shop again soon.

I am really trying not to be one of those new mothers that bombards her blog readers with photos of her baby... But it is so hard. Here are 3 of the best ones I have taken - now that my proper camera works again.

Welcome to the world my Baby Boy!

Our baby boy arrived, surprising us all by coming into the world a month early!

Declan was born on Saturday January 30th at 4.26am, weighing 2.7 kilos/6 pounds after a relatively short 6 hour labor. Because he was premature we had to stay in the hospital for 9 days until the nurses were sure he was strong enough to come home. He had a little jaundace for a while and had to be put under a special light to help him heal.

As he was premature he also had some feeding problems, so for a while he needed a tube in his nose so that he could get all the food he needed to grow big and strong. But they took that out 3 days ago.

We are so happy that we could finally bring him home yesterday, our little man is with us at last!

I will add some more photos soon, we can't find the charger for my good camera so all our photos so far have been taken with my iPhone. I'm going to buy a new charger today so I can take some really good photos for my collection.

3D photos of our baby

Last night was our 3D scan, which I had been excitedly looking forward to for weeks! I have been waiting so long to see our little boys face. The cheeky monkey did not want to play along however, he turned his head to the side of my womb and hid, and then he put his hands in front of his face in an uncanny impression of what my husband looks like when he is sleeping, and then he put his feet in front of his face too!

The very talented scan lady did manage to capture a couple of partial face shots for us, we both think he has my husbands mouth and nose - I am destined to be surrounded by handsome men!

Decorating the Nursery

Now that we know we are having a boy I could get on with decorating the nursery. We decided to go with a monkey theme because my hubby is mad about all things primate. I painted a tree and monkey mural on the wall, which came out almost as good as I hoped it would. I have also be building a lot of ikea furniture for the new room as hubby is hopeless at decoding the instructions. We are not completely finished but I am really happy with how it is looking so far.




We are off to Paris for a long weekend, one last romantic holiday together before our little man arrives and changes our world forever. My shop will be reopening again on Wednesday.

We're PREGNANT!!

I have some wonderful news. We have reached 3 months so I can finally tell the world: We are PREGNANT with out first child!! Due in February. We are both soooo excited and very, very happy :)

This scan was done at around 9 weeks, so baby still looks very blob-like. The nurse said everything looks perfect - 2 arms, 2 legs, and everything in the right place - He or she has been growing like crazy the last month and I am just beginning to feel a bump. The first trimester has not been too hard on Mommy-to-be, something I am very thankful for! Being a Mom is something I have always wanted, I can't wait to meet him or her (we won't be able to find out the sex until our next scan in a month or so)

Gift Cards

After some encouragement from a friend or two I have decided to venture into selling gift cards featuring my little mice. These are the first photos of my prototype card.

The card measures 132 x 132 mm (5.3" x 5.3") when folded. Printed on high quality medium weight white card using a proffessional photo-quality Epson R1800 Printer. I am going to offer them sold individually, in sets and also some made to order. I can make a card of any mouse featured in my Etsy Store! All cards come with a 140mm x 140mm (5.5" x 5.5") envelope in a choice of colors.

The cards are blank inside as standard I can print a personal message inside if desired.
