However, this week I find that I want to make a change to my life and it happens to be near the beginning of a New Year, so you might call it a New Years Resolution but I won't. New Years Resolutions never work for me, and I want/need this one to. So I am just making a change and I am resolutely ignoring the date.
2008 saw my store expand and sell far faster than I think anyone - least of all me - could have imagined. My husband is studying for a Masters while working a full time job so he is busy for all but about 1 hour a day. This suited me fine, it gave me the freedom to put in the long hours The House of Mouse needed to get started. My business is very well organized but my home life has slid. I'm living off microwave meals and chocolate, the house is a mess and I barely see my friends anymore. I need to find some balance.
How I achieve this balance I am still working out. I already know I need to plan my time better and not allow myself to spend endless hours at my computer. My home needs a lot of redecoration and renovation this year too, we plan on starting a family once my husband has completed his masters.
I think 2009 will be as busy - if not busier - than 2008, but I hope it will be a more balanced one too.
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!
All the best for the New Year to you too Anna!
ReplyDeleteI think, I need a treadmill ...

Well done on your business successes, and good luck with finding a balance. I like your philosophy of not having New Year's Resolutions - quite often they get made and not kept, so your way seems far more likely to succeed!
ReplyDeleteHoping you have a great 2009!
a happy new year to you! i have followed your work on etsy for over a year and admire your sense of humor and sense of style! i do tend to map out my year at this time of year but totally understand what you are saying--great post!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see how you continue to grow and create!
If you are anything like me Anna, you will find more exercise gives you more energy.
ReplyDeleteFinding balance is hard and is something I found myself seeking at many stages of my life.
I can look back over almost 6 decades and see how life changed and how I created the balance. But I think it is an individual's decision, no one can actually tell you how to do it!
I hope you find that 'balance' Anna ... many happy new years wishes to you and your husband .. would be nice to see little mice :))
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best in finding your balance in 2009 and beyond. Thanks for the tips for new etsy sellers on your blog and in the forums; these have been full of valuable info for newbies like me! Happy New Year!

But I too am working on it, like going to drawing classes other whise I can't seem to find the time to draw at all. Hope your personal life and work life finds it's balance! Happy new year!

ReplyDeleteYour post so made me laugh...I am trapped in Etsy too and can't seem to find my way out LOL I too plan to try to set limits on my Etsy/blog/computer use this year and hope it will give me more time for my home (which is also a mess) and my boyfriend.
Happy New Year!
I think that is the problem with all crafters who have a web shop and have to promote on net.
ReplyDeleteI've started to alienayte myself away from computer few weeks ago and suddenly I have time to read books again, read magazines, hang pictures on the wall, organize my closets and shelves, go for a walk...all that time which went on sitting in front of computer I can use for something "real" :)
...but who knows how long I can keep myself out :P
Wishing you good new year! and good and cheesy year to your mice as well!
Best wishes to you for the new year and for your non-new year resolution. I have a similar one planned - here's to achieving our goals!
